4 March 2025: Emma and Janise meet with the Attorney-General of Queensland, discussing how mandating training in the WWCC could protect children
26 February 2025: Emma meets with South Australia’s Minister for Human Services who could mandate training in the WWCC
24 February 2025: Emma and Janise meet with the Deputy Premier of Tasmania to discuss bringing our WWCC reform to the state, with plans to continue the conversation
21 February 2025: The Principal Commissioner of the Queensland Family and Child Commission, Luke Twyford, meets with Emma and Janise, showing his support for our proposed reform.
28 February 2025: The NSW Children’s Advocate writes to the Federal Government in support of them funding training for nationwide adoption into WWCC registration
19 February 2025: Emma Hurst MP passes a motion meaning the government will investigate changing its legislation to mandate training in the WWCC and advocate the federal government fund this training for nationwide use
13 – 18 February 2025: Emma and Janise join Emma Hurst MP in the NSW Parliament to lobby in support of a motion about WWCC training
January 2025: Emma and CEO Janise Mitchell are invited to Federal Parliament and lobby Government and Opposition Ministers to support WWCC reform, with many positive meetings
January 2025: The Foundation releases a follow up report, ‘More than a Check’, all about the continued need to reform the Working With Children Check to include mandatory training.
It includes a review of 2024 media stories of Check holders abusing children.
