Our National Research Program
The Australian Childhood Foundation has a commitment to undertaking national research which can improve the lives and welfare of all Australian children.
For this reason, the Foundation has established the National Research Centre for the Prevention of Child Abuse as a joint initiative with the Department of Social Work at Monash University. The National Research Centre is part of the School of Primary Health Care, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University.
The focus of the research undertaken by the Foundation provides the basis for
- better supporting parents and families to raise happy and confident children;
- understanding the causes and consequences of abuse and violence on children, families and the community;
- developing new counselling programs that help children recover from the trauma associated with abuse and family violence;
- advocating for reform to national and state government policies to enhance the safety and well-being of children in Australia;
- informing the creation of evidence based community and professional education programs about child development, parenting support and child protection.
All the research reports published by the Foundation are available for download free of charge from this website.
