Target makeover our Darwin counselling spaces

Impact Newsletter March 2023

In February, Target Australia generously gave their time and resources to makeover our Darwin counselling spaces.

Target team members from their support office and local Darwin store came together to provide a makeover using their products to help the Foundation create an inviting space for the children, young people and families who come to the counselling spaces.

These counselling spaces see 60 families of children and young people at any given time and help over 300 per year.

The initiative came from a conversation with Target late last year after the Darwin team had moved into some new counselling rooms. The ask was simple: Help us make the spaces feel warm, comfortable, safe and most of all fun to help meet the needs of the children and young people accessing our services.

“We work with so many diverse families in Darwin, and we needed a space that would create a warm, comforting and enriching environment for everyone.” - Blythe McAuley, Senior Manager, Therapeutic Services NT.

The Target team worked tirelessly over three days which resulted in a welcoming atmosphere, complete with new furniture, toys, and artwork that feature calming colours. The space also now includes a revitalised arts area that encourages play therapy, which can aid children in expressing themselves.

We cannot thank our partners, Target, enough for their generosity and efforts.

Target has been a partner of Australian Childhood Foundation for just over 12 months and in that time have made a considerable effort to not just provide much needed funds, but to amply the work our teams do on the ground to support children and young people heal from trauma through specialist therapeutic care.
