Professional Development Workshops

The issues of child abuse and family violence are complex. Developing responses or interventions in situations where children and young people have experienced such trauma often present a variety of challenges for both individual professionals and the health, welfare and education systems as a whole. The Australian Childhood Foundation offers seminars that explore intervention with children and young people who have experienced abuse related trauma and their families from a range of perspectives.

Below are the 2008 seminars, they are divided into seminars that build knowledge, workshops that translate knowledge into skills and workshops that build both skills and knowledge. These seminars summarise critical knowledge areas and then focus on translating it into specific practice strategies within different contexts in the protection, support, education and placement of children and young people affected by abuse related trauma. Attendance at these seminars is not based on previous participation in any of our training.

These forums provide an experiential opportunity to reflect on participants’ own practice. The total number of participants is limited to a maximum of fifteen. Participants are encouraged to share their work with children, young people and families. Completion of a core knowledge seminar or equivalent is a prerequisite for these workshops.
