Education and Training

Knowledge about the neurobiology of trauma is invigorating the child protection and welfare field. It seems to offer practitioners fresh conceptual maps that resource recovery for children, young people and families whilst also promoting important systemic reform.

The Australian Childhood Foundation has developed a reputation for providing high quality education and training programs which focus on the neurobiology of trauma, attachment and related practice issues. Over the past two years alone, more than 8000 health, welfare, legal, out of home care, child protection and education professionals have undertaken workshops and seminars with us. Many of you have attended more than once and are keen to take part again.

We are offering a newly restructured program in 2008. We have modified it so that individuals have opportunities to build on their learning in a progressive way that ensures that seminar content is relevant and new.

In the first instance, we have introduced core knowledge seminars which are an entry level for subsequent more advanced learning opportunities. These core knowledge seminars provide the most current information about the neurobiology of abuse related trauma in relation to children and families.

You can download the 2008 Professional Development Calendar from this site, which will further explain the new training structure. Alternatively you can request a hard copy by contacting Liz Alexander at training@childhood.org.au
