
Professional Development Seminars
SMART Schedule
Throughout 2008, the Smart Program is offering a number of knowledge and skill building seminars to education professionals across South Australia. The seminars will include:
- recent research on the impact of trauma on brain development
- understanding the outcomes of trauma on children in education settings
- responding to trauma based behaviour utilising a transformative framework
- exploring school/centre based responses to child abuse prevention and intervention.
The seminars are facilitated in locations across South Australia and run between 9.30am – 4.30pm. Click here to download the seminar timetable. The seminars cost $10 per participant.
Registrations are essential as places are limited. You can choose a seminar and register by downloading and completing the seminar timetable and registration form. Fax it back to the Foundation on the fax number on the form.
Learning outcomes.
Participants will
- develop an enhanced understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of complex abuse related trauma;
- extend their knowledge of brain functioning through childhood and the developmental implications of complex abuse related trauma;
- demonstrate an understanding of the relevance of traumatic memory states and trauma oriented relational patterns to the behaviour of children within education settings;
- build on their practice skills to apply key models of intervention which promote recovery for children;
- develop frameworks for assessment and intervention that are sensitive to the needs of children from indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and children with disabilities, and:
- consider ways to support professional confidence and skill in responding to children at risk of abuse, in addition to the promotion of a positive environment that is effective in its response to the critical needs of children at risk of child abuse.
