We provide training and resources

“…Childhood is the most basic human right of children….”  - Dr David Elkind

We believe that the better informed we are about the problem as a community, the more committed we will all be to act to put an end to child abuse and family violence.

Professionals working with children, families or parents often report that they feel poorly skilled to address the problem of child abuse and neglect.  Many professionals find the complexities of abuse and neglect difficult to understand, many have very little understanding of the impact of abuse related trauma on children's development, behaviour and functioning.  More still feel at a loss to know how to support a child and family where abuse has occurred.  These experiences are often echoed in the media when a child is tragically harmed or killed despite the involvement of professionals. They are also frequently highlighted in government enquiries into the effectiveness of health, welfare and education professionals to ensure children remain protected from harm.

The majority of professionals have received no or little training in the area of child abuse as part of their professional qualification.

Children rely on adults to keep them safe from harm.  Adults who work with children in a professional capacity are in a crucial position to know if a child is at risk and to be able to take steps to protect and support the child from further abuse or prevent the abuse in the first place.

If we are to reduce the harm caused to children by abuse and neglect we need professionals who feel confident and skilled to address these difficult and challenging problems. That is why we invest so much in providing training to health, welfare, education and legal professionals. It is also why we invest in the production and distribution of resources throughout the community.
